The Need

In Burundi, 40% out of all children are never registered at birth.[i]  Without a birth certificate, these children are unable to receive healthcare (normally free for children under the age of 5), to go to school, to inherit property, or to find legal work when they are older.  Amongst the vulnerable children with whom we work, we often observe other human right's violations including abuse, exploitation, violence, theft, and misuse of heritage.  These children are poorly situated to stand up for themselves against law to gain even the most basic human rights.
