Over time we have created numerous other programs that provide solutions to other challenges that the communities face.  For example, we created solidarity groups called "Nawe N'uze" that save money each week to support themselves and the orphans.  We created a microfinance organization that can provide larger loans to entrepreneurs within our groups.  Furthermore, we have created community health mututals so that the members families, including the orphans in their care, have access to healthcare.

Our groups are the perfect venue for reaching hard to reach communities with a variety of services.  Over time, our reach has grown signifcantly to over 1,200 groups comprised of over 49,000 members today.  These groups care for over 45,000 orphans.

In 2014, FVS-AMADE created a network of the solidarity group leaders across the 4 provinces where we work.  Collaborating together, the network will be able to better take care of children in need.

Our History.

FVS-AMADE empowers solidarity groups to take care of children in need within their communities.  Our model of development is sustainable, holistic, and scalable. We are continually evolving in order to increase our impact.

FVS-AMADE Burundi was created by the union of two non-profit organizations: FVS “la Famille pour Vaincre le SIDA” (Family to Vanquish AIDS) and AMADE Burundi, the Burundian Chapter of “l’Association Mondiale des Amis de l’Enfance” (Global Association of Friends of Children).

FVS-AMADE Burundi has been working in Burundi for over 22 years to support orphans and vulnerable children.  Originally, the organization provided direct support to children.  As the organization scaled however, it became apparent that a more sustainable solution was needed to reach all of the OVC in need.

Within this goal in mind, FVS-AMADE decided to involve the communities in caring for OVC in 2002.  We facilitated the organization of groups called Children's Protection Committees (CPCs) committed to protecting the rights of the children. This was also better for the children, who were integrated into the communities instead of placed in orphanages. Our utlimate goal is to promote the economic autonomy of the communities to care for the children.
