FVS-AMADE Burundi understands that although you can always help someone, but it is always better and more sustainable to give them the tools to help themselves.

This week, FVS-AMADE Burundi awarded 106 young orphans heads of households certificates of completion of a 6 month professional training in cooking and sewing. The trainings were held in four different locations including Rumonge, Kiremba, Matana, and Bujumbura. These recent graduations will have the opportunity to participate in internships in the largest hotels of Bujumbura and Gitega, and six have already been offered full-time employment.

Another group of FVS-AMADE’s beneficiaries, the solidarity group members caring for orphans and vulnerable children, also received trainings. 100 members, over 80% women, participated in trainings on small business creation and management. Among them, the top 30 highest-performers were selected to receive additional training that will enable them to train others.

This Friday, the ambience was celebratory at the Municipal Highschool of Rubiza where the certification ceremonies took place. Elderly mothers and younger group members danced and sang together, certificates in hand, thanking FVS-AMADE for giving them the opportunity to improve their futures. The majority of them already owned small businesses, but had previously lacked the skills to make them more competitive and innovative.

The young graduates from the professional training also received additional trainings on how to create and manage small businesses. This newfound knowledge, coupled with their material kits, will prepare them to succeed in creating their own sewing shops or restaurants.

FVS-AMADE Burundi plans to continue these entrepreneurship trainings in all of their intervention areas.
