The Forum of Civil Society FORSC elected FVS- AMADE Burundi as 'Best Actor of civil society for the year 2013." An official ceremony was held Thursday night at the Hotel Safari Gate in Bujumbura. According to Armel Niyongere, President of the Catholic Association against Torture and chair of the selection panel, FVS- AMADE Burundi was chosen for its contributions to the school enrollments of orphans and other vulnerable children. The FVS- AMADE Burundi is also in the process of building a school of excellence in Matana where 30 % of the students will include orphans and other vulnerable children.
For the 2013-2014 school year, the FVS- AMADE Burundi collected school supplies kits for 44,000 orphans and other vulnerable children though its solidarity groups. To enable the education of children, FVS-AMADE Burundi has created solidarity groups composed mostly of guardians of orphans across the four provinces where it works. FVS-AMADE currently supervises 1,166 solidarity groups with 37,249 total members. These groups meet weekly and each member contributes between 100 and 200 BIF (approximately 6 and 12 cents) to a box reserved for the purchase of school supplies for orphans and other vulnerable children at the start of the year.
The representative of FORSC, Mr. Vital Nshimirimana, took the opportunity to extend his congratulations to FVS- AMADE Burundi and the Legal Representative, Spès Nihangaza. The latter, with barely controlled emotions, dedicated the award to the entire staff at FVS- AMADE Burundi who have done everything in their power to ensure children have access to education.
